Recipes with Zerlina Mastin

Green smoothies are a great way of getting in some fruit and veg! This smoothie is a ‘healthier’ version to an all-fruit smoothie combo which is considerably higher in sugar (leading to erratic blood sugars and energy slumps). This avocado spinach smoothie includes unrefined carbohydrates and healthy fats.



Serves 1



½ avocado, 2 handfuls of fresh spinach, 1 small banana, 1 date (pitted), 50-100ml of unsweetened almond milk, fresh mint leaves.



  • Peel the avocado and remove the seed

  • In a blender, mix the spinach, mint leaves, banana and date with a little water.

  • Add the avocado and almond milk and continue to blend until the desired consistency is attained (smooth and creamy).

  • Serve and enjoy!

  • For a more sustained energy boost add a tablespoon of oats or ground nuts/nut spread add some healthy protein.
